About Prof. Chanthunya
Charles Lemson Chanthunya is a Chancellor and Professor of Economics at Blantyre International University, Malawi. He has a PhD in Economics from the University of Wales, an M.Phil. in Economic Development from the University of Glasgow, and a Bachelor of Social Science with Distinction from the University of Malawi. He also has a certificate awarded by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Financial Analysis and Policy and a certificate in Small Business Consultancy awarded by the University of the Philippines. He has traveled widely in all the continents.
He was a member of the main team that created Malawi’s Vision 2020 and served as a senior monetary expert and later as the director of trade, customs, and monetary affairs at the Secretariat of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). He has co-authored a book titled “Economic Growth and Trade Regime” with his friend, Professor Victor Murinde, and a book titled “The COMESA Free Trade Area: concept, challenges, and opportunities” in “The Free Trade Area of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa,” edited by Victor Murinde. He has also done a lot of studies and published several articles in the areas of economics, trade, and finance.
His research interests include economic development, international trade, monetary policy, investment, and wealth creation and growth. As an Author, he hopes to share his knowledge and experience with readers around the world to make a difference in people’s lives.
